Really interesting progress made today – yesterday I watched a video on design, as suggested by my awesome fiancé Dan, who also is trying to do really creative things and sometimes finds it hard to get going – but is working really hard on making it happen!
In the video, Aaron Draplin, a graphic artist/designer, designs a logo – and he uses some really straightforward but incredibly effective techniques. So that’s what I did today.
I started with a white board, and a question – why? Why does my character do what he does, and how does it change? Where are the matches?
It took me several whiteboards – 7 or 8 maybe – to generate some ideas. It feels freeer and easier to write on a whiteboard – no committing things to paper, no typing, which I think can sometimes feel a lot more formal as well, all of which helps with being a little more creative and asking why, without having to either throw it away or commit it – perfect for throwing ideas round!
Have a look at the video – what do you think?
